Bourbon & Rye
-
Old Fashioned
We pride ourselves on being cocktail preservationists and so our Old Fashioned is most traditional just like it was in post-prohibition days. Uncomplicated with just a sugar cube, a few drops of bitters, muddled with fruit, and topped with whiskey.
-
Sazerac
Created in the 1830s, the Sazerac is an American classic. Its bold taste - a combination of rye whiskey, VSOP Cognac, bitters, and lemon peel in an absinthe coated glass.
-
The Highball
An old-school cocktail. This is a highball with a capital H. A very classic cocktail made of Maker's Mark, ginger beer, and lime. Hard to beat.
-
The Boulevardier
A Negroni turned around, replacing the gin with bourbon. Bold with a richness and complexity that can be a welcome departure from straight whiskey.
-
Bourbon Daisy
Makers Mark, ginger beer, and grenadine form an alliance of fruits and liquor with a lingering finish. (by Paulius)
-
Ninth Ward
Originally introduced at “Tales of the Cocktail 2008.” It features Bulleit bourbon delivered in a Creole-style with St. Germain, falernum, lime juice, and Peychaud’s bitters.
-
The Rust Belt
Cleveland, a shining example of what a city must do to stay relevant in the 21st century. It’s about substance meeting style. With a bite of bitter and a pointed punch of rye, you'll find only a hint of sweetness. (by Julie)
-
Final Word
Our twist on the classic Last Word. Substitute the liquor and everything changes. It’s bourbon instead of gin, and we use Bookers.
-
Champagne Charlie
The road to redemption may be rocky but the journey is made a little easier with this unique drink. Redemption rye, Cointreau, lime, champagne, rhubarb bitters, and St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram. (by Nick)
-
UItimate Amaretto Sour
Jeffrey Moregenthaler feels strongly about his cocktail and upon trying it we became enamored. It's stronger, with a much different flavor than our other. This one uses Bookers and Lazzaroni Amaretto.
-

Circa 1930s and straight from New Orleans, this cocktail is named after the French Quarter. Rye, Cognac, and sweet vermouth with dashes of Benedictine & 2 kinds of bitters.
-

Manhattans
When properly prepared, at first sip a Manhattan will raise your eyebrows...Endlessly adaptable, this cocktail is able to morph into other incarnations without losing its flair. The finish is usually an Amarena cherry or sometimes a twist.-
The Classic Manhattan
Classics remain classic for a reason. Vermouth, VTR bitters, and Makers Mark.
-
The Tango Manhattan
Made with VTR's house made red wine reduction, Makers Mark, and VTR bitters. A touch sweeter, a touch more nuanced.

Scotch
-
Blood and Sand
From the 1930s. Johnnie Walker Black, Cherry Heering, sweet vermouth, and freshly squeezed orange. It’s the perfect example of a sum being greater than its parts.
-
Youngstown Johnny
Inspired by Lara’s misspent youth. A twist on a Rob Roy but slightly more botanical. What we have here is Johnnie Walker Black, St. Germain, red vermouth, and bitters.
-
Penicillin
This is a sweet scotch cocktail we quite like from Milk & Honey bar in NYC. It’s Johnnie Walker Black, Laphroaig, honey, lemon, and ginger.
-
The Conclusion
The finale in the “3 Words Trilogy.” From the Last Word, to the Final Word, and now the Conclusion. All that ever changes is the liquor. Gin to bourbon to scotch, while everything else stays the same. Brilliant. (by Linas)
-
Smoke and Mirrors
The Boulevardier mirrored the Negroni cleverly altering the configuration by just one ingredient. Here the trick has been turned again using Johnnie Walker Black along with Fernet-Branca. Again, this one from Lara, a true scotch enthusiast.

-
Sidecar
In postwar Paris, the Sidecar became a signature drink for the Hemingway ex-pat crowd. Two parts Cognac, one part Cointreau, one part lemon. These are the perfect proportions of this cocktail.
-
Widow's Kiss
The Widow does not cast her strong herbaceous smell on everyone, but for those who succumb to her heady mixture of Lairds, Benedictine, and Chartreuse, her effect is both powerful and addictive.
-
Champs Elysees
A lighter cocktail comprised of brandy and yellow Chartreuse with lemon, equals nothing short of elegant.
-
Brandy Alexander
A variation of the earlier gin-based cocktail simply called the Alexander, this cognac-based classic is a wonderful blend of flavors to almost any palette. Although a dessert cocktail by category this blend of flavors is sure to delight the masses. Cognac, nutmeg, creme de cocoa, and creme.

-
The Berkshire Martinez
Born and raised in the CLE, renowned writer Michael Ruhlman puts his more muscular spin on the Martinez, a cocktail dated back to 1887. It’s gin, sweet vermouth, a bit of Luxardo with a healthy dose of VTR bitters, and a squeeze of lemon.
-
Songbird

Negroni
With an herbal, citrus nose, it’s bracing and unique. Made not to disguise the flavors but to celebrate them. Campari and gin, and sweet vermouth. Finished with a flamed orange peel.

-
The Five: Fifteen
On her one-year anniversary with us, Nina created the 5:15. A frothy combination of cherry and lime, shaken hard with gin. It’s sweet, with an underlying current of something more. Just like her.

Tequila
-
Cereza De Cal
To say it's just a cherry limeade with a kick would be selling it short. Don Julio Reposado - a dark tequila, mixed with a jammy-cherry liqueur, and fresh lime juice along with a splash of soda water, served in a tall glass. One of ours.
-
Cactus Flower
We believe that tequila is an underrated cocktail spirit but this drink is the epitome of how it can be used beautifully. St. Germain, citrus, and cherry bitters. A great one by Lara.
-
The Hulett
As the tale goes, we were walking down St. Clair and Rick was walking down Ontario. We were holding tequila and he, Laphroaig - and let’s just say it was a very happy accident. We added lime and secrets.
-
Cleveland Rose
Two incongruous white liquors, tequila, and gin are seamlessly joined with yellow Chartreuse to produce a graceful blend of unexpected flavors. (by Hilary)

Rum
-
Brazilian
Cachaga, a close cousin to rum, has almost a sweet melon flavor. To that, we add ginger beer and our bitters. Lighter than the Dark ‘n’ Stormy.
-
Dark 'N' Stormy
Born on Bermudd’s pink sand beaches, the Dark ‘n’ Stormy has lime Juice on the bottom, ginger beer in the middle, and Gosling’s Black Seal rum capping it off. The straw is inserted slowly so your first sip hits in layers.
-
Spicy Chica
This is our own little frothy homage to tiki culture. Made with Gosling’s Black Seal rum, amaretto, our ginger beer, fresh juices, and a dusting of cinnamon. (by Paulius)
-
The Tango Mai Tai
Just the mere thought conjures up all kinds of dreamy places we'd rather be. But in the right here and now, we can put you pretty close. It’s the original Mai Tai improved upon.

Fizzes & Flips
Driven by a need for something light, delicious and alcoholic, the bartenders of yesteryear invented these delightful concoctions. Their soft, cloud-like texture has inspired a cult following. A labor-intensive cocktail that’s worth the wait.
-
Ramos Gin Fizz
Henry C. Ramos invented this cocktail at his bar in Meyer’s Restaurant in New Orleans back in 1888. Light and frothy, with wonderful hints of orange blossom and citrus, served with a spoon so you don't miss one ambrosial foamy bit.
-
Royal Fizz
Smooth and custard-like, this lovely cocktail is as fizzy as its sister, the Ramos, but richer and subtly denser, with notes of vanilla and a whole egg giving this amazing concoction its beautiful golden glow.
-
India Lime Fizz
A VTR original, featured on The Food Channel's “Best Thing | Ever Drank,’ this fizz brings the exotic taste of floral India limes and notes of vanilla to the rich and creamy base. The use of a whole egg disguises a particularly powerful cocktail. (by Paulius)
-
Shanghai Fizz
Exotically herbaceous, leaning towards heavenly. With a flavor like no other, it’s made with the only liqueur so good they named a color after it... Only at the VTR.
-
Housemade Eggnog
Frothy and wonderfully spiced with a mixture of brandy and dark rum. Made according to the owner's own recipe. Especially festive during the holidays but, at the VTR, we're happy to make it for you any time.
Sours
A noble and distinctive drink with its good name sullied through years of association with pre-made mixes. At the VTR, we've worked hard to restore the sour to its proper place of glory. The fresh-squeezed lemon and lime juice, simple syrup, and an egg white, act to bind the juice, sugar, and alcohol into a showcase for the primary liquor.

-
Trinidad Sour
An inversion of the standard cocktail formula that takes the edge off the mighty dose of Angostura by hitting it with an equal amount of orgeat, and then adding lemon juice and rye just to keep the bitters distracted. Counterintuitive and intriguing.
